"Cut It Out", a great R&B rocker from the earliest stages of the late great Joe Tex's fine career, plus "Sahara" an atmospheric instrumental workout from Dr Johns' 1962 period, provide just a hint of what's in store for purchasers of the Ace Story Vol 3 which contains a total of 16 great tracks from artists including Huey "Piano" Smith, Jerry McCain, Sonny Boy Williamson, Bobby Marchan etc.
CH 59 RICHARD BERRY "GET OUT OF THE CAR"
The menacing tones of Richard Berry provided hitmakers Leiber & Stoller with just the sound they needed to turn the Coaster's recordng of "Riot In Cell Block 9" into a million selling smash "The Big Break", Berry's follow up to that record, and "Rockin' Man" provide a tantalising taste of Berry's versatile style which is displayed to great effect on this, his best ever album.
CH 48 JUST ROLLIN' WITH JOHNNY OLENN
Johnn'ys exciting cameo appearance in the classic rock'n'Roll movie "The Girl Can't Help It", could have launched him on a big career. Olenn was a great singer with an unusual voice and he was managed by Buck Ram, who also looked after the platters. However, further fame was not in store for this superb 18 year old singer from San Antonio, Texas and today original copies of this album change hands for around $100 a time while Olenn is rumoured to be living in obscurity in Houston.
CH 58 YOUNG JESSIE "HIT, GIT & SPLIT"
It remains a mystery to us why this great singer never achieved more widespread success, at least in the R&B field. On this, the first ever album compiled from Young Jessie's Modern Flair and R.P.M. Recordings, the singer displays a style and class which should have made him a huge star.
