Production Notes:
"How to capture a band that plays a different concert every night. By making a DVD that plays differently every time. Simple to conceive. At 4am on a final day, after two months of work, a little more challenging. If the next few hours are successful, then "The Snow" on the BootlegTV disc will simulate a different concert experience every time - randomly inserting improvisations at point where they might have belonged.
Depending on the speed of your DVD player, there may be a slight pause each time it makes a random selection. This is not a fault. Do not return your disc. Krim have never been a band for soft fades, but hard cuts and wild leaps.
While on the subject of "hard cuts", I should perhaps be apologising for the "quantity" of the footage. But no. I love its honesty. Crimson have never been a visual band, and this footage captures them on their own terms. The video equivalent of an official bootleg: Smell-a-vision.
Whether you want to smell a concert is an entirely different question.
By filming an entire tour, BootlegTV broke the rule that any concert that is filmed is automatically a bad concert. It captured a band in full flight. Terrifying, this DVD merely scatches the surface of the available archives from that summer 2000 European tour.
There is an intersting story to be written about this project. The concerts in Japan that were cancelled, the Mobile studio that crashed before the show, the missing multitrack tapes that resurfaced in a cupboard in Seattle on the last hour of the last night of mixing, the mastering studio that wasn't, the CD writer that wouldn't.
Perhaps a job for the vicar.
It is now 6.23 am and the master hard drive needs to be driven to DGM by 7am. The sun is up, and it is the end of a twenty two hour day. It is possible there are a few twists yet to come.
Why is it that we do this?!"
David Singleton.
