"Winter Music" notes: "Although previously recorded (on Deutsche Grammophon) in a simultaneous performance with the composer's 'Atlas Eclipticalis' and 'Cartridge Music,' the present recording is the first of 'Winter Music' by itself... George Flynn played the piece four times, picking the pages of the score indeterminately for each run. These four performances were recorded on four separate tape tracks by means of a multi-channel tape recorder, in a way to appear, when this record is heard in quad, on the corresponding loudspeaker (when it is heard in stereo, the rear channels, i.e. tracks 2 and 4, will appear together with tracks 1 and 3 on the left and right speakers respectively."
